Horizons for Homeless Children Mourns the Loss of Dedicated Playspace Activity Leaders

Summer/Fall 2007: Over the past few months, Horizons for Homeless Children has been deeply saddened to hear of the death of four of our current or former Playspace Activity Leaders.

Brian Schwarz, a high school student, volunteered with his mother at Inn Between, a family shelter in Peabody MA. The children, parents and staff of the shelter really enjoyed Brian and are deeply saddened by his loss.

Graham Barton was a PAL at Crittenton Hastings House in Brighton, where he volunteered with the children for nearly a year. His fellow PALs and the children he worked with appreciated his easy-going nature and friendliness; he is deeply missed.

PAL Kathy Doney began her volunteer service with Horizons for Homeless Children at A Family Place Shelter in Holyoke in September of 2006. She was a woman of boundless energy and goodwill, and was incredibly committed to the Playspace
Programs.

Margaret Merfeld, a former HHC employee and longtime PAL, volunteered at Revision/Miller House in Dorchester between September 2003 and February of this year. Being a mother of four children herself, Margaret understood the importance of play. Her warmth and commitment to the children will be a great loss.
