The Greenfield Family Inn homeless shelter on Federal Street finally has its own play space for the children who come into the shelter.
Horizons for Homeless Children, a nonprofit organization, has installed the educational and recreational space for children who might be living there while waiting, with their parents, for a home.
These "kid-friendly" spaces come equipped with books, play equipment, building blocks, art supplies and much more. Franklin County volunteers of HHC come in four days a week from 6 to 8pm to mentor and encourage the young children.
"You should see the children. They are waiting at the door of their room for those people," said Fran Lemay, Director of the Family Inn, and he continues, "When the children come into that room, they can forget everything else. They use their imaginations to play." I could tell from his voice how pleased he is with the latest play space.
