On January 27, Celtics player Leon Powe, along with members of the Celtics Women's Group, visited the Edgerley Family Community Children's Center in Roxbury to read and participate in arts and crafts activities with children from Horizons for Homeless Children.
As part of the NBA program Read to Achieve, Leon Powe and Celtics Women's Group members Esta Epstein, Ellie Svenson, Betsy Epstein and Llorren Cook read to children in multiple classrooms at the Community Children's Center. They also participated in arts and crafts with the children that included finger painting and decorating materials with handprints; all activities had a focus on multi-culturism.
Read to Achieve is an NBA program designed to promote the value of reading and to build a lifelong love of reading in young people by providing greater access to books. The Boston Celtics Read to Achieve program is supported locally by ReadBoston.
