On Tuesday, February 27, Whole Foods Market® (NASDAQ: WFMI) in Hingham and Woburn celebrated a Five Percent Day by donating five percent of the store’s net sales for the day to Horizons for Homeless Children. The donation totaled almost $6,000! Funds generated from the 5% Day are earmarked for the provision of quality direct care and early education services through Horizons for Homeless Children’s Community Children’s Centers and Playspace Programs. They will also greatly assist the organization’s growing training and advocacy efforts at local, state and national levels.
"The problem of homeless children is almost invisible to our day-to-day lives, and these great kids are in danger of falling through the cracks of our society,” said Sue Heilman, Executive Director, Horizons for Homeless Children. “HHC’s Playspace Programs and Community Children’s Centers offer safe havens for homeless children to play and develop, while giving their parents a chance to work, seek employment or otherwise make life changes that eventually will help them live on their own. This year we are tremendously proud to partner with Whole Foods Market as we join together to improve the lives of homeless children and families and strive to break the cycle of homelessness.”
